Job overview

This is a flexible visiting care role offering 2-10 hours per week. The carer will provide support to Chris, a 75-year-old gentleman with dementia, Parkinson's disease and Type 1 Diabetes. The role focuses on practical support with daily living, transport to appointments, and providing friendly companionship. This is an ideal opportunity for a compassionate carer who enjoys building relationships and supporting clients to maintain their independence and quality of life. The client's wife is his full-time carer and is seeking regular respite support.

Key responsibilities

The carer will visit the client's home and undertake the following responsibilities:
  •  Prepare meals and other domestic duites as needed
  • Provide transport to medical appointments and activities
  • Offer friendly companionship and conversation
  • Support with organisational tasks as needed
  • Accompany on outings and social activities

About the client

Age: 75
Medical conditions: Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson's disease, Type 1 Diabetes and mild cognitive impairment
Additional health information: The client remains fairly independent but is at risk of falling. He manages a sensor insulin pump alongside his other conditions, which presents significant daily challenges. His organisational skills are limited, though he does not yet require full-time care.
Personal interests: The client is very social and enjoys social media, outings and chatting.

Work environment

Smoke-free and pet-free home.

Requirements

Essential:
  • Care Certificate qualification
  • Fluent spoken English
  • Current driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • Flexibility with working times
Desirable:
  • Experience supporting clients with dementia
  • Knowledge of diabetes management

Working pattern

2-10 hours per week, to be arranged with the client's family. This includes:
  • Some lunchtime visits
  • Occasional overnight care
  • Occasional outings and transport to activities
