Job overview

This is a permanent, live-in care position for an 87-year-old client with dementia and mental health support needs. The role offers an opportunity to provide compassionate, person-centred care in a beautiful rural location near the coast. The ideal candidate will be warm, kind, and emotionally supportive, with strong practical care skills and the ability to help the client feel safe and understood.

Key responsibilities

The carer will live in the client's home and undertake the following duties:
  • Manage and administer medicines
  • Buy groceries and prepare meals
  • Undertake household tasks including cleaning and laundry
  • Provide transport to appointments
  • Provide overnight reassurance and support
  • Offer companionship and friendly engagement
  • Assist with the care of two cats

Age: 87
Medical conditions: Dementia and mental health condition
Health profile: The client is physically active but frequently confused and can sometimes be challenging. They require reassurance, patience, and a calm approach.
Household: Two cats

Work environment

The client's home is located in a rural setting, two miles from the coast, in a smoke-free environment. A personal vehicle is essential due to the location.

Working pattern

50 – 70 hours per week, live-in with flexible time off to be arranged. Regular break cover and family support are in place.

Requirements

Essential:
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Fluent English
  • Care Quality Commission (CQC) mandatory training
  • Care Certificate or equivalent care qualification
Desirable qualities:
  • Experience caring for clients with dementia
  • Warm, kind, and emotionally supportive approach
  • Strong reassurance and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
  • Pet care experience
