A family is seeking a reliable and compassionate visiting carer to support their 81-year-old father with personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, and companionship. This is a permanent part-time role, primarily covering weekend shifts (Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings), with potential for additional hours. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, client-centred, and keen to learn, with experience in dementia or Parkinson's care being desirable.
Key responsibilities
The carer will visit the client's home and undertake the following responsibilities:
- Support with hygiene and toileting needs
- Manage catheter bag changes (morning and evening)
- Shop for groceries and prepare healthy, nutritious meals
- Undertake household tasks including cleaning and laundry
- Provide friendly companionship and emotional support
About the client
Age: 81 years old
Medical conditions: Arthritis, Diabetes, Heart failure, Mild cognitive impairment, and Parkinson's
Additional health needs: The client requires catheter bag changes from day bag to night bag in the evenings and vice versa in the mornings. Training will be provided by the family.
Support network: The client receives care from a Personal Assistant Monday to Friday (mornings and late afternoons) and receives support from a neighbour and family members.
Personality and interests: The client is quiet and gentle but enjoys photography, classical music, nature, and art. He appreciates calm, listening carers but is also comfortable with more energetic personalities. Above all, he values client-centred care and being listened to.
Work environment
Smoke-free and pet-free home.
Working pattern
1 - 8 hours per week, permanent part-time role
Primary hours: Saturday evenings (5pm, 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm) and Sunday mornings (8am or 9am). Specific times are negotiable.
Additional opportunities: Cover care during holidays or sickness, and potential for additional hours on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons as needed.
