Job description

Job overview

A family is seeking a caring and compassionate visiting carer to support their 88-year-old mother. The client is looking for someone who is friendly, chatty and positive – someone who can provide practical support with daily tasks while also offering genuine companionship and emotional support. This is a part-time, fixed-duration role (8 to 12 weeks) working 7-14 hours per week on a flexible basis.

Key responsibilities

The carer will visit the client's home and undertake the following responsibilities:
  • Manage and administer medicines
  • Support with hygiene and toileting needs
  • Assist with household tasks including cleaning and laundry
  • Provide transport to appointments or accompany on public transport or taxi
  • Offer friendly companionship and emotional support

About the client

Age: 88
Medical conditions: Mild post Stroke symptoms, prolapse, and depression
Additional health needs: The client is managing a prolapsed bowel and experiences hearing loss. She is currently dealing with loneliness and isolation. The client is independent in many areas – she can wash, dress, prepare simple meals, and use household appliances such as the microwave, kettle and washing machine.
Family support: The client's daughter visits three times per week and calls daily. Other family members are abroad. During the next few months, the daughter will be away frequently, and the client's son may visit occasionally.

Work environment

The client lives in a McCarthy Stone independent living flat. The home is smoke-free and pet-free.

Requirements

Language: Clear, spoken English is essential due to the client's hearing loss.

Working pattern

7-14 hours per week, typically 1-2 hours per day on a flexible basis. Hours will be arranged between the carer and the client to suit both parties.

Who this role would suit

A friendly, chatty and positive carer with excellent listening skills. The ideal candidate will be good at lifting the client's mood, providing genuine companionship, and building a warm rapport. Patience, empathy and a genuine interest in the client's wellbeing are essential.
